The MET will be at The Free Tulsa music festival on July 30 & 31. We’ll have recycling bins for aluminum and plastic bottles, and we’ll have a booth and staff on hand to answer questions about recycling. Check out the event here:

Owasso Compost Bin Sale!

This Saturday, drop your recycling off at the Owasso Recycling Center and pick up a compost bin from the MET! Supplies are limited for this great opportunity to get a compost bin below cost! $40 each, cash or check only. Saturday, May 22 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Mercury May Day

Join us THIS SATURDAY at the Westside Med-X (4423 Southwest Blvd) for a mercury exchange program! Bring in your old mercury thermometer or thermostat and you’ll receive a $5 Med-X gift card, courtesy of Covanta Energy (while supplies last). The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There’s a limit of one gift card per household. Have questions? Call 584.0584!

Enviro Expo

Join the MET for Tulsa’s official Earth Day Party on Thursday at 4th & Main from 10 to 2. The event features live music from Tulsa’s own Eric & the Adams, all the environmental information you could want, electric and CNG cars, all in a fun, vibrant downtown setting! Come downtown, grab some lunch, and GET YOUR GREEN ON!

Fairgrounds Pollutant Collection

THIS WEEKEND, April 17-18, 2010, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. is the bi-annual Fairgrounds Pollutant Collection!

Items accepted include: household cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, automotive fluids, cooking oil, batteries, all fluorescent light bulbs, small ammunition, smoke alarms, aerosol paint, hobby paint, pool chemicals, items containing mercury, and unused or out-of-date prescription medications.

Items NOT accepted at the event include: latex paint, tires, computers, radioactive waste and commercial waste. Latex paint is not accepted because it is not hazardous. It is water-based and can safely disposed of by being dried out. Remove the lid and let the paint completely dry. Tulsa residents can place 2 cans of dry paint next to regular residential trash for pick up.

Transport pollutants to the event in the trunk of a car or the bed of a pick up truck. Wear gloves while handling pollutants.

To deliver items, enter the fairgrounds from 15th Street at Gate 7 (15th & Sandusky). Trained volunteers will remove pollutants from vehicles.

Tulsa Trash Talks

Monday, April 12 at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett. 6 p.m.

Tuesday, April 13 at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford. 6 p.m.

Monday, April 19 at Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St. 6 p.m.

Tuesday, April 20th at McClure Park, 7440 East 7th St. 6 p.m.

These public hearings are a fantastic way to let your councilors know what you think about the future of recycling and refuse service in Tulsa. The City of Tulsa needs your feedback and ideas, so join us in talking trash!
