The second step to recycling is to reuse

Save your plastic and paper bags to reuse instead of throwing them away.
Store your leftover food in glass or plastic containers rather than zippered bags.
Use the back side of paper you were going to throw away for a scratch pad.
Save manila envelopes and file folders to use again.
